The Los Angeles Lakers' offseason continues to be ruled by speculation around the future of LeBron James. Trade speculation has the star changing teams landing with a number of other potential contenders. Considering the Lakers currently hold the power in the situation, it seems extremely unlikely James will be moved. Adding Luka gives LeBron a chance to play with a generational talent and leaves no question that the franchise is making an attempt at another championship run. Trading the superstar simply shouldn't be on the table.

This is especially the case when you look at the roster and consider the potential ceiling. Paying market value or above is a consistent trait for the franchise, with one notable exception. Austin Reaves is on a bargain of a deal that is going to continue to prove what an amazing decision to was to extend the guard. Every season, Reaves has found a way to get better as a scorer and consistently sets up his teammates.

Lakers Guard Austin Reaves Is on a Bargain Deal

There was a level of speculation that the Lakers could attempt to trade Reaves this offseason as well. However, this ignores the fact that there is zero chance of finding a player with his ceiling at his current price. Trading Reaves would be impossibly irresponsible for a franchise desperate to add more depth. With this in mind, Reaves shouldn't be considered in any potential trades unless it is bringing a more established star in his place.

With this in mind, Laker fans should continue to appreciate the impressive career path of a player who has proven to be clutch when it matters most. Reaves is never afraid of the moment and consistently elevates the offense no matter the situation. Whether it is hitting a clutch three or finding a way to fight through contact for a bucket, the scorer remains one of the more overlooked sources of offense around the league.

All of this adds up to a team that needs to be content with its current trio and work to improve the bench unit. Scoring isn't going to be an issue; it is wing defenders and additional size that the team should look to add as we continue to near the 2025-26 season.
