Vital Chargers Free Agent Reveals Big-Name Player He Wants to Play With
By Jovan Alford
The Los Angeles Chargers have a long free agency list heading into the offseason after pulling off an 11-win season. The Chargers have 30 players slated to become free agents in March when the new league year begins.
Some of the more notable free agents that the Chargers have are veteran pass rusher Khalil Mack, standout cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., and veteran running back J.K. Dobbins.
While Mack and Samuel Jr. should be priority signings for the defense, Dobbins should be the priority on offense. The veteran running back joined the Chargers on a one-year prove-it deal worth $1.61 million.
Los Angeles completely overhauled its running back room this past offseason, signing Dobbins and Gus Edwards after not re-signing Austin Ekeler. Dobbins struggled with injuries over his last few years in Baltimore but had an outstanding bounce-back year with Jim Harbaugh.
The 26-year-old running back posted career-highs across the board with 905 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground in 13 games this season (11 starts). After proving that he could stay healthy, Dobbins is due for a huge pay raise this offseason.
The veteran playmaker, who is one of the finalists for the Comeback Player of the Year Award, was on Up and Adams with Kay Adams on Thursday.
Adams asked Dobbins if he would ever play with Aaron Rodgers and he gave a surprising answer, that might make the Chargers fanbase nervous.
"Yeah, I would play with Aaron, for sure," Dobbins said. "That was one of the conversations we were having during rehab."
According to Dobbins, Rodgers said, "He was like you should come play with me." The veteran running back responded, "It was like Aaron, I would love to play with you. I would love to be on your team and be right alongside you."
"You know, you never know. Ya never know, free agency is pending," Dobbins added. The New York Jets have three solid, young RBs on their roster (Breece Hall, Braelon Davis, and Isaiah Davis), so it doesn't make sense for Dobbins to go there.
However, if Rodgers were to leave New York and go elsewhere, Dobbins may follow him. But it's more than likely the Chargers will find a way to keep Dobbins after how he ran the ball this season.
