Jakob Silfverberg decides to stay with the Anaheim Ducks; signs extension.

He stepped into the national spotlight last year and became known for his excellent sniper shot during the shootouts and now he is staying in Anaheim through the 2018-19 NHL season. Jakob Silfverberg, the 24-year-old right winger signed a four-year extension on Friday. In his time with the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks, he has put up 81 points with a +26 rating in 181 career games. While with the Ducks, Silfverberg has seen most of his time playing on the second line.

"“No matter you who are, you always want to get it out of the way,” Slifverberg told Orange County Register, “We had good talks throughout the summer. The same thing happened last year. I ended up signing pretty late.”"

Since coming over in a trade in 2013 that involved one-time Ducks fan favorite Bobby Ryan, Jakob Silfverberg has established himself averaging 1.13 points per game, which ties him for second in the NHL along with teammates Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf.. Last season, Silfverberg became a huge asset in the regular season, especially in the shootout. In the shootout, he’s ranked first in career efficiency, going 14-for-23, or a 60.9 percent conversion rate.

Besides the NHL, he represented Sweden in the 2014 Winter Olympic games in Sochi and ended up winning the silver medal. Silfverberg has represented Sweden on other occasions, as he won a silver and bronze medal in the 2010 World Junior Championships and the 2011 World Championship. He also set a record in goals with 13 in the 2011-12 in the Swedish Elite League, and was named MVP in the regular season and playoffs.

Silfverberg’s career-high numbers last season were a huge part of the Ducks regular season success and third straight Pacific Division title. His numbers included a +15 plus/minus, 13 goals, 26 assists, and 39 points in 189 shot attempts. During the Ducks’ postseason run last season, Silfverberg put up four goals and 14 assists in 16 games. His shootout numbers in the regular season were also impressive as he put up nine goals and a 62.6 shootout percentage.

With Silfverberg’s signing, the Ducks are still below the salary cap with almost the entire team coming back next season. Carl Hagelin, whom the Ducks acquired from the New York Rangers through trade, remains the only unrestricted free-agent on the Ducks roster.

"“Every player on the team is an important player,” Silfverberg told Orange County Register, “Obviously in the playoffs, I got to play a lot more than I might’ve played in the regular season. I felt the trust from Coach Bruce in different situations that I haven’t seen before.”"
