LA sports news is taking a different turn this time of year; especially as franchise-changing decisions are about to be made in one sport or another.

There is one individual who looms so large over his team that it’s time he made the right decision.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have whittled down their managerial hiring search to two candidates San Diego Padres bench coach Dave Roberts and Dodgers farm director Gabe Kapler, reports indicated that the Dodgers would make a final decision before the weekend but now it seems the Dodgers will push their decision to Monday.

A lot is riding on this hire for Dodgers President Andrew Friedman, it will signify the complete overhaul of the entire organization in only Friedman’s second year of being in charge of the front office.

The Dodgers choice comes down to Roberts the former Dodger player whose been with the Padres coaching staff since 2011 or Kapler whose perceived as the front office favorite due to his innovative and unorthodox views regarding health and athletes (it also helps that he was brought in by Friedman).

Whoever the Dodgers top brass pick he will be forever be linked to Andrew Friedman, so whoever the pick will begin to feel the pressure to succeed right away.

The Los Angeles Lakers season has proven to be a challenge starting off 2-9 and placing mediocre or worst in every team category the NBA has to offer.

If you listen to local radio or stalk sports internet sites the common feeling is that this is another lost season for the Lakers.

This means the Lakers have to make some decisions about where they want to go in 2016.

First the Lakers need to fire head coach Byron Scott or he needs to play the rookies.

More from LA Sports Hub

Over the course of the beginning of the season Byron Scott has scoffed at the idea that because D’Angelo Russell was last year’s No. 2 draft pick that he should be getting significant playing time.

This is very dumb and that alone should get Scott, Russell needs to play NBA minutes otherwise he isn’t developing and his play will suffer.

This kind of scenario renders last season a loss, because what was the pint of losing all those games keeping your draft pick just to see that pick ridding the pine.

If Scott wants to stick around then he either plays the rookie or hit the bricks because the Lakers aren’t winning many games anyway.

The Lakers second major decision revolves around that shadow I was speaking about earlier.

Kobe Bryant is in his 20th season and it’s starting to look more apparent that he is on his last legs.

After playing 37 minutes and helping the Lakers defeat the Brooklyn Nets, Bryant while on the Coach Mike Krzyzewski radio show stated that “if something changes I’ll come back and play next season — if something doesn’t change, this is it for me.”

Bottom Line: LA must be ready to pull its weight.

Lots of decisions remain for LA teams that can affect the future of two of it’s most prominent professional franchises.

For their fans, the Dodgers and Lakers will hopefully push the right buttons that lead to long term success, because if they don’t theses next few years may be unbearable to watch.
