The latest Clippers news has to do with how Los Angeles should handle Doc Rivers after having an off-season that will drastically change everything.

Understanding how all of the Clippers news from the summer affects Doc Rivers is worth knowing. Ever since he tried making the move from Boston to LA and maintaining the championship experience he got with the Celtics, Rivers has yet to lead another successful crusade.

Instead, it seems he was the main reason that Chris Paul left town. The Clippers had received a blessing from the league when Paul wound up in their lap instead of with the Lakers. Consequently, it seemed that him coming to Los Angeles wasn’t going to fix anything.

Rivers will have plenty to sort through from the first game of the season. What it seems like everyone wants to know at this point is how he’ll handle Austin Rivers. There’s room for his son to be a full-time starter on the team, but that should only be if he earns what’s up for grabs.

He may also have to learn to play rookies a lot more than he usually does. Trying something outside of the box that could potentially work well is what it might come down to in order to save his job.

Sindarious Thornwell has played tremendous in Summer League along with fellow young gun Brice Johnson. Also, the Clippers got more than they probably needed from the Rockets for Chris Paul.

Patrick Beverley isn’t the best point guard in the league, but he’ll change how Rivers has to coach. Instead of utilizing a score first point guard, the priority, it seems, of Beverley’s game is to play stop-centered defense.

That’s fine, but it is an adjustment the team will have to make.

Lou Williams is one of the players received from Houston that’ll make Rivers’ job much easier. Like he did for the Lakers in most of last season, Williams can come off the bench and excel in any role that you ask of him.

He’s one of, if not the best, current sixth man in the league right now. And that matters because the Clippers would be foolish to think they can win without any depth.

Ultimately, it’ll come down to how far Rivers can carry a team whose leader is now Blake Griffin. After not being able to finish the year healthy when they’ve needed him most, that’s a big gamble.

But it’s not like Rivers has a choice at this point.
