For the second year in a row, the Lakers and Clippers throw down in the first week of the season. And for the second year in a row, the Clippers come in as the stable, power franchise in Los Angeles while the Lakers are surrounded by uncertainty. In 2013-14, the Kobe Bryant-less Lakers surprised everyone with a 116-103 season-opening victory.

The Clippers will be sure not to get spooked on Halloween. With new owner Steve Ballmer in tow, Los Angeles’ second team has to continue dominating the Lakers if it wants to ride this wave of momentum. Regardless of how makeshift the 2014-15 Lakers roster may be, as long as Kobe suits up they always have a chance.

The Lakers and Clippers also face off in back-to-back games on Apr. 5 and 7.

Undercard: Jordan Farmar faces the Lakers almost immediately after spending five of his first seven NBA seasons in purple and gold.
