The LA Dodgers Just Can’t Seem To Click
By Keith Rivas
Just under 50% of the LA Dodgers’ runs have come off of home runs — but they still can’t keep opponents off of the scoreboard late.
Well the Dodgers seem to be reaching new startling lows despite still having control of the NL West.
Unfortunately, thus far in the season, they appear to be the weakest of all of major league baseball’s division-leading teams — and the problem only begins there.
Despite resurgent performances by their ace in Clayton Kershaw, LA was still unable to top the New York Mets at Dodgers Stadium on Friday night.

After scoring off of Adrian Gonzalez’ second inning homer the Dodgers couldn’t get on the scoreboard at all.
The Mets responded by scoring once in the fourth inning and then getting the game-winning run in the top of the ninth.
And the Dodgers simply couldn’t respond.
Kershaw is win-less in his last five starts and that’s never a good sign for a pitcher of his stature, situation, and location.
Kershaw sits on one of the best and brightest pedestals in all of baseball, but has struggled extensively in 2015 and in previous playoff starts.
So if the Dodgers expect to turn the tides any time soon, they have no choice but to make sure that whatever they tweak also tweaks their best pitcher’s game for the better.
He’s not a Cy Young holder for nothing.
The San Francisco Giants currently trail the boys in blue by 3.5 games in the latest updated standings, but if the Giants are anything like the teams we’ve seen the last couple of years then that lead doesn’t mean much of anything.
And even if the Giants end up as a wild card team, they proved to us with their World Series win last year that they can still do plenty of damage without a divisional pennant.
Maybe LA should take note?
I’m not suggesting they intentionally give away the lead they’ve mustered all the way until now, but depending on it to carry you into post-season success is only foolish and will make the team look pretty pathetic.
Not to mention they’ll have to probably play the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS or NLCS.
One good thing the Dodgers can hold on to is that whoever wins the American League will most likely be a new face.
This means that, should LA make the World Series, it will be a thrilling experience for both parties and the Dodgers won’t necessarily be big underdogs.
Teams like the Houston Astros, Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, and others are looking to make the mid-decade transition with the usual powerhouses.
Bottom Line: LA can still get out of their mental quick sand
Clubs like the New York Yankees are back in the October conversation, but their NL East lead is shallow and they are followed by the Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, and Toronto Blue Jays who all rest less than three games behind.
Sounds like things are going to get pretty interesting on the other side of the diamond.
