Clippers & Mavericks Now Playing Overtime For DeAndre Jordan
By Damon Taylor
DeAndre Jordan has second thoughts about signing with the Dallas Mavericks, he is now meeting with the Clippers for a 2nd time according to multiple reports.
Doc Rivers and the Clippers look to sway Jordan’s decision about reversing his verbal agreement with the Mavs to return to Los Angeles.
I find this story quite intriguing; the free agent signing isn’t official until tomorrow. Therefore, anything can happen with any deal from right now till the 8th of July.
With 24 hours left until free agency becomes official, I think it’s a good move for the Clippers to make one last run for the star center. This reminds me of two coaches fighting for position to sign a 5 star high school recruit. I’m sure both teams are taking major shots at each other by now.
In addition, the Clippers aren’t wrong for wanting to get one last meeting with Jordan. However, I don’t see Mavericks owner Mark Cuban letting them get the last meeting.
Cuban is a juggernaut when it comes to free agency. He usually gets the players he wants and he makes moves every year in free agency. So far it’s been a struggle for Doc in free agency when it comes to building a team. I fully expect Cuban to use that against Doc and the Clippers.
This isn’t the first time a player has thought about spurning a team after making a verbal commitment.
A few years back, Hedo Turkoglu committed to signing with the Portland Trailblazers.
However, at the last minute, Turkoglu backs out of the deal with Portland to sign with the Toronto Raptors.

I felt like that was a immoral move by Turkoglu.
He got one teams hopes up and ended up signing with another.
I was pleased when it didn’t work in Toronto for Turkoglu.
Also, it happened with Carlos Boozer when he left the Cleveland Cavilers for the Utah Jazz. He made an agreement not to sign the offer sheet with the Jazz. But, the agreement was broke and Boozer ended up signing a big contract with the Jazz.
The Cavs decided not to offer the signing sheet and the rest is history.
Once again I thought it was unethical for Boozer to do that, but, it’s not as bad because of the money Utah offered him.
Therefore, I think Jordan changes his mind.
Jordan knows what’s in front of him with the Clippers –the Clippers have a chance to win a championship this season and multiple going forward.
The Clippers are still a playoff team without Jordan at the end of the day, and they are at least a 4-5 seed in the Western Conference.
But, if they can get him back it will definitely complete their team going forward. I really think he has a changed of heart and signs back with Clippers after they send out the dogs to go get him.
As of right now, the Clippers are flying to Houston to meet with Jordan according to multiple reports. Also, Mark Cuban will be flying to Houston to meet with Jordan including super recruiter Chandler Parsons. Parsons is the Michael Jordan of recruiting.
The next few hours should be really exciting, its like some type of reality show, I am very excited to see what happens next. Will Jordan back to the Clippers or stay with the Mavericks? Let the free agency games begin.
