Even teams that have clearly stacked rosters can suffer loss if there isn’t a clear pecking order.
We all remember the Miami Heat fiasco when they lost in the NBA Finals to an inferior Mavericks team. The Mavs handily beat the Heat en route to a title because it wasn’t clear who was the alpha dog among Lebron James and Dwyane Wade.
The Clippers can find themselves in a similar predicament if they don’t stabilize the relationship among their best players.
It is clear that Chris Paul has the game and attitude to be the number one fiddle, but what still remains is Blake and DeAndre’s ability to settle into their roles.
Blake has to be a willing Robin along side Batman, a humbling experience for a young super star. DeAndre has to acquiesce, to some degree, to Chris’ intense leadership and demanding nature. Paul, as a leader, has to be able to appropriately handle those relationships to maximize the teams capabilities.
"Bottom Line: Clippers will need contributions on the court and in the locker-room to find success in 2016"
The worst case scenario for the Clippers is an implosion over personal difference on or off the court.
What remains to be seen is if the conversation that kept DeAndre in LA will be enough to heal any wounds that may have been inflicted during the season.
That moment can mean make or break for this big three not only for this season, but for their future with the Clippers.
