Deflategate: Closing Thoughts On Brady Decision

facebooktwitterreddit

Deflategate has been going on since after the AFC Championship game between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots.

Tom Brady was suspended for the first four games of the 2015/2016 NFL season because he was found guilty by the commissioner of deflating, altering the air pressure of  the footballs for the AFC championship game or was part of it.

Tom Brady with the help of the CBA appealed the four game suspension.

The appealing  process felt like light years. The NFL then took it to a federal judge.

More from LA Sports Hub

After what felt like light years of waiting Judge Berman nullified Brady’s suspension.

Brady is now allowed to play in the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I wasn’t planning on watching this game if Brady was suspended because of all the suspensions and injuries amidst both teams.

Both running backs for  each team are suspended for  the first game due to substance abuse policy.

Both teams do not have a great defense yes I said that; even the defending champions do not have a good defense because they lost their two corners to  different teams; Brandon Browner to the New Orleans Saints and Darrelle Revis went back home to the New York Jets.

This would mean both teams no matter the starting quarterback will be able to score many points.

Yet again there is one more problem star receivers are out due to  suspensions and injuries.

So what does this mean now that Brady is able to play in the season opener?

What does the nullified suspension mean for the Patriots, for Brady, for the NFL, and for the Commissioner?

Well for New England it means they have their super bowl MVP quarterback back.

Now that he is back ;the AFC East it is now a four horse race for who will win the division and possibly the best or most competitive division in the league.

For Brady it means in the future who could be known as the man who is the “football hero  or villain”  that changed football not once but multiple times for different reasons.Of course depending on whose side you are on.

For example the tuck rule, protecting the quarterback and now deflate gate.

Well for the NFL this means the New England Patriots have a shot now at defending their title with more hopes now but it won’t come easy. They will be a force to be reckoned with.

Last but not least what does this mean for the commissioner?

Does this mean this is the end of an era for Roger Goodell?

Could we be looking at a new Commissioner within the coming years or next year?

I am not saying Brady wasn’t at much fault for his actions as Goodell is at fault for his.

I am saying that Goodell is known for not showing leadership, responsibility, or discipline in the league.

Not only do some fans not support him’ most players and coaches do not support him either.

If we look at past situations with former suspensions there are four that stand out where Roger didn’t discipline appropriately or take responsibility.

For examples, he only suspended Ray Rice 2 games for the domestic violence abuse of  his wife.

Greg Hardy is now suspended 4 games instead of 10 games because of domestic violence and could possibly appeal to 2 games or or less.

Then they suspended Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings for a year without pay because of a domestic dispute with his son.

What do these three examples all have in common?

The  NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell let them all back in the league after he explained publicly the league will not accept domestic violence.

Then again Brady isn’t the only QB who has tampered with footballs.

Many other players of different positions supported Brady.

The only thing is that they didn’t get caught.

I was saying all along don’t suspend him 4 games maybe just 1 because you can’t compare to substance abuse policy to tampering with footballs. Yes they are both cheating but they are not  the same.

One is  drugs and one isn’t.

According to Judge Berman Roger was not just in his decisions and trials of his own.

The Patriots Brady and CBA brought up when the Panthers tampered with the footballs and all they got was a warning.

Yes I understand it is the integrity of the game but is their integrity of the game when many  NFL teams and or QBs are tampering with the footballs?

Judge Berman was the judge of the case after the NFL and Brady failed to reach a settlement and Bermans decision was an impactful one. He nullified the suspension.

However the hearing is not over yet because now commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL want to appeal the decision.

With all this drama and nullified suspension has this opened the doors for other to appeal their suspensions?
