Monday Night Football: 49ers Out To Prove Doubters Wrong

42. Final. 3. 60. 20

If you were thinking the San Francisco 49ers were going to open the 2015-16 season with a win on Monday Night Football after that kind of off-season, the only explanation is you must be a die-hard fan.

You probably had Carlos Hyde on your fantasy team, too.

On Monday night, the San Francisco 49ers absolutely destroyed the Minnesota Vikings — proving once again that maybe Adrian Peterson and company aren’t ready for the limelight.

In a battle of two teams in the midst of a lot of “what-if” scenarios both on and off the field, at the end of the day, the Niners just wanted it more.

If you couldn’t see that, you must be blind.

Former Ohio State Buckeye Carlos Hyde got to flex beyond belief.

In the same moment, the 49ers also donned their all-black, business-as-usual jerseys with red lettering.

The new jerseys had a mixed reaction from fans when they were announced via social media, but maybe it helped give the team the kind of confidence a squad needs to do what they did.

Because what I saw was nothing short of domination.

For a Vikings team with young stud Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback and a future Hall-of-Famer in Adrian Petersen at the running back spot, they got nowhere.

Both teams opened the first quarter with no points, but the 49ers took control slowly, but surely.

And the craziest part was that their defense came up huge more than anything.

Carlos Hyde, stepping in for an injured Reggie Bush, put in 168 yards off of 26 rushes, including two touchdowns.

Adrian Peterson? 10 carries for 31 yards and that’s all.

With his longest carry not even getting to 10 yards.

That’s not the AP Minnesota hopes shows up for the remainder of the football season, especially when you consider the quality of play they’ll be getting from the rest of the NFC North.

But they’ll cross that bridge — no pun intended — when they get there.

Teddy Bridgewater’s numbers weren’t too stellar either, as he went 23/32 and threw for 231 yards.

But no touchdowns. Or a ‘W’.

The 49ers’ next two games are on the road, first against the Steelers at Heinz Field before taking their talents to Arizona in a divisional match up with the Cardinals.

It’s safe to say that in those two games alone the 49ers will get a much tougher challenge than they got from the Vikings on Monday.

The season doesn’t really get easier for San Francisco after three games, though, so don’t get your hopes up just yet.

They still have five total games (after the first one against Arizona) against the NFC West — two against the Seahawks, two against the Rams, and one more against the Cardinals.

San Francisco squares up with the Packers in game four before heading into divisional match up territory.

Bottom Line: San Fran Is On Cloud 9.

As for the Vikings, they better figure out what’s going on with their team before heading into their game against the Detroit Lions next weekend.

Because trust me when I say that Ameer Abdullah took some serious notes from Carlos Hyde.
