With the firing of Cavs coach David Blatt being announced early today, the Lakers should take a hard look at him if things with Byron Scott doesn’t improve in the near future.

Initially, the Cavs hired David Blatt to help develop the younger more promising players like Kyrie Irving, Tristan Thompson, and even former number 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins, but LeBron James‘ decision to join the Cavs in the summer of 2015 changed the whole landscape of the franchise going forward.

Unfortunately, a year later, Blatt got the wrong end of the stick and was blamed for most of the problems the Cavs had the last few seasons.

With that being said, Blatt still helped lead the Cavs to the NBA finals before losing in six games to the Golden State Warriors without their two All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love.

Blatt didn’t get a fair chance to succeed in Cleveland, and no coach was given a fair chance with James — history proves that ever since LeBron departed from Cleveland in 2010.

But, the old saying of “one teams trash is another team’s treasure” applies in this situation pretty bluntly.

Blatt is a tremendous coach for developing young players and he would fit great with these young Los Angeles Lakers if thing with Byron Scott doesn’t improve.

Byron Scott is a good coach as well but I think his strength is coaching an established, veteran team like he did with the Nets; helping them go to two straight NBA Finals.

His downfall is being too controlling and that’s why he was fired from Nets mid-way through the season in 2004.

One thing I like about Blatt potentially taking over the Lakers in the future is that his offensive style will be more European Princeton than American Princeton.

It’s based on a lot of ball movement and right now that’s lacking from this Lakers team.

For example, it’s like playing hot potato with NBA players — don’t let the ball stick in one player’s hands for 15 seconds.

And for a young team like the Lakers, the ball wouldn’t stick in one player’s hands. The ball will move around the perimeter with tons of baseline cuts and passes.

For point guard D’Angelo Russell, this style of Princeton offense wouldn’t be so handcuffing, due to the fact that he will get easier shots to take and the excessive ball movement will make the entire offense more efficient.

With this style of offense, it’s tough to ask a veteran team to inherit it and change as opposed to a younger team like the Lakers.

It’s very similar to the way the San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks run their offenses, and that’s the right way to play basketball.

Isolation basketball is becoming a lost art in the NBA and ball movement is coming in full effect and I suggest the Lakers take a hard look at this very successful coach David Blatt.

Coach Blatt’s resume speaks for itself and thus far he did a nice coaching job with the Cavs.

Despite not having their starting point guard for the first few months of the season, they still managed to be top 10 in field goal percentage, eighth in team three point percentage 16th in points per game, and 12th in assist per game.

He could really help develop these young players that the Lakers will have in the future and it will come at a cheap price.
