Los Angeles Rams Won’t Immediately Contend For Anything Special

Now that Los Angeles has its football team back in the Los Angeles Rams, I would like to urge fans that the team is still a few years away from playoff contention.

The next few seasons the Los Angeles Rams will be a border line playoff team until they get their most needed position that’ll get them over teams like Seattle and Arizona.

The Rams have everything a team needs to win a super bowl besides a quarterback. The defensive line is stout, the linebacker core is really good, and the secondary makes many plays and creates turnovers.

2015 wasn’t so successful in the rankings part but the defense is very talented at every level.

Rookie sensation Todd Gurley carried that team in many ways more than one. The Rams were seventh in rushing but very anemic is passing yards, only averaging 175 yards per game.

That’s dead last in the NFL.

The hardest part of an NFL season is to get to the playoffs and in order to get into the postseason a team must have a quarterback that’ll make all the correct throws and leadership to get to that next level.

In the postseason, every great defense will make a name for themselves.

For example, this year’s Super Bowl participants, Denver and Carolina, solidified themselves as the top two defenses in the league by their performances in this year’s postseason.

With that being said, Jeff Fisher historically has had the most success with dual threat quarterbacks.

For example, Steve Mcnair helped lead the Tennessee Titans to the Super Bowl in 1999 to only lose by a foot to the St. Louis Rams.

Also, Vince Young had a few successful seasons playing in Jeff Fisher’s system including winning Rookie of the year.

Available quarterbacks through free agency that will best fit Fisher’s style are Robert Griffin III if released by the Washington Redskins and Chase Daniel, who is currently the backup for Kansas City Chiefs.

Depending on the health of RG III, of course, he would be the home run shot but I think Chase Daniel would be a more safe free agency deal.

That way they wouldn’t have overpay for a quarterback of RG III-caliber to be possibly disappointed.

Also, signing Daniel to a short “show me what you got” deal and drafting a quarterback in the mid rounds would be the best ideal situation.

The quarterbacks the Rams should look at second round and beyond are Connor Cook of Michigan State, Cardale Jones of Ohio State and Dak Prescott of Mississippi State.

All three quarterbacks are solid throwing the ball but they also give that dual threat approach when playing behind the center. Cook isn’t as athletic as Jones and Prescott but what he can’t do with his legs he can do with his arm.

Therefore, the Rams shouldn’t focus on a quarterback until after the first round and second round; because the quarterback position is certainly deep in 2016.
