Lakers Rumors: D’Angelo Russell could be traded to Chicago in exchange for Derrick Rose
By Keith Rivas
If the latest Lakers rumors hold up, a new point guard will be joining the Los Angeles Lakers next season.
Free agency is always a fun part of the basketball year, and after what we got to see in the NBA Finals, it’s safe to say that nothing can be off the table until it really is off the table.
One rumor that Forbes wrote about recently is a potential trade involving D’Angelo Russell for Derrick Rose and then some.
According to the Forbes report, it would be a move that the Lakers would try and make to boost their rebuild while keeping the majority of their young core together.
When it comes to Rose playing in Los Angeles, many fans will immediately point to his injury history and say that he is unreliable — but when compared to Russell, even just last season, Rose is better statistically speaking and could find his real break with the Lakers.
While it would be unfortunate in the sense that it wouldn’t be a homecoming — in fact, just the opposite — it would allow the Bulls to start over in a major way that they are looking to and it’s not a trade where the Lakers necessarily get the short end of the stick.
Forbes is also reporting that Chicago could give Los Angeles it’s No. 14 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft which could mean the youth on the roster wouldn’t necessarily go anywhere for the Lakers.

Los Angeles is a team with a lot of potential from their younger guys, and going after Derrick Rose aggressively makes sense if the front office is ready to completely move on from — not give up on — D’Angelo Russell.
If the former Ohio State star was traded, it wouldn’t be because of his failure to produce.
After just one season, he put up averages of 13.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per contest — but Rose was better.
Rose had averages of 16.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game in just 66 games.
ESPN recently reported on interest growing in Rose coming from the New York Knicks, who have also been looking into Jordan Clarkson as a potential free agency grab.
While the young core is important to the Lakers, it’s arguable when it comes to which players or pieces in place are more valuable than the other.
Jordan Clarkson would be preferred over Russell and Randle hasn’t had enough time to show us his full potential at his position — but an excellent point guard could change that and it is another reason that the Lakers could be looking to shake things up.

The potential trade (assuming terms and conditions listed are actually provided) could give the Lakers the chance to grab another shooting guard either on draft night or over the course of free agency to better compliment a returning Clarkson.
