Kings trade for Jerome Iginla from Colorado
By Jamaal Artis
Jerome Iginla will now be part of the Los Angeles Kings.
When the Los Angeles Kings traded forward Dwight King it was seen as a move to bring in another forward to boost the offense.
Well the other shoe has dropped as shortly after the King trade another one was announced. The Kings have traded for veteran forward Jerome Iginla sending a conditional 2018 draft pick to the Colorado Avalanche.

By trading for the 39 year old Iginla, the Kings are hoping they get the player who has 619 goals to his name and not the one who looks like he’s lost his foot speed and struggled to score this year.
Although Iginla only has eight goals, the Kings offense has been so anemic at times Iginla would be fourth on the team with goals.
The move reunites Iginla with Kings coach Darryl Sutter, the two were together on the Calgary Flames between 2002-2006 including a magical 2004 Stanley Cup Finals run that ended in a Game 7 loss.
Bringing in Iginla feels like it maybe a few years too late.
The Kings had shown interest in signing Iginla back in the 2013 off-season but ultimately Iginla signed with the Avalanche. It remains to be seen if Iginla still has the foot speed to help the Kings offense.
No doubt Iginla will provide something, Sutter may choose to use his sniping skills for the Kings power play which is currently in the bottom ten at 24th. Although youth is not on his side perhaps familiarity with Sutter’s system will be an advantage for Iginla.

Whether due to cap space or lack of assets, the trade deadline has yielded very little for the Kings, as nice as it will be for fans to see a future Hall of Famer on the ice, the Iginla trade may not be enough to boost the offense or the Kings playoff chances.
