Alex Wood – 100%

You read that right, out of all five guys in this slideshow Alex Wood will undoubtedly make the Dodgers rotation on Opening Day. This one is not just part of the Dodgers rumors, it seems like common sense. I have been a huge fan of Alex Wood, and while his numbers have not consistently been the best he shows so much promise for the Dodgers.

At only 26 years of age, Wood has so much room to grow and develop into a great left-handed pitcher. His career 3.35 ERA is great for his age, and although he has struggled at times with the Dodgers he has also shown true dominance.

More from Dodgers Rumors

Alex Wood absolutely dominates in Dodger Stadium. No, I am not being hyperbolic, Wood is his best at Chavez Ravine and is pretty untouchable. Pitching at Dodger stadium, Wood has amounted to a 1.74 ERA – accounting for 15 earned runs in 77.2 innings pitched.

Wood too has struggled with history of injury, but not to the extent that McCarthy and Ryu have. Wood started 32 games in 2015 and pithced in only 14 last season. One season of injury is not too alarming, and if Wood rehabbed properly he should be perfectly fine heading into 2017.

Wood is such a consistent option for the Dodgers in the back-end of the rotation. Although he is currently listed fifth, I believe that he is more likely to be the fourth starter. We know, as fans, exactly what we will get out of Wood as well. At home, he will most likely be great, away from home we can expect a 3-4 run performance out of Wood.

He might not be the most polarizing, but he is the smartest choice to make the rotation. The Dodgers would be foolish to hold Wood out of the rotation to start the year.
