Magic Johnson, Jeanie Buss head up LA 2024 Board of Directors

The LA 2024 Board of Directors has some familiar faces.

And then there were two.

Thankfully, It’s down to Paris and Los Angeles for possible hosts of the 2024 Olympics and Paralympic Games. Accordingly, Los Angeles is pulling from its diverse group of entertainers, sports figures, educators, philanthropists, and business men and women to head up it’s Board of Directors.

Also, LA 2024, the non-profit organization in charge of bringing the games to Los Angeles, announced on Thursday a diverse group of individuals chosen to “serve the Olympic Movement in 2024 and beyond.”

Among those on 117-group of selections and nominees are:

Dr. Dre – Music Producer, Songwriter & Performer, Film Producer, Entrepreneur

Magic Johnson – Olympian, Chairman & CEO, Magic Johnson Enterprises and Vice-Chair, LA 2024

Jeanie Buss – Owner & Governor, Los Angeles Lakers

Bob Iger – Chairman & CEO, The Walt Disney Company and Vice-Chair, LA 2024

Stan Kasten – President & CEO, Los Angeles Dodgers

Placido Domingo – Opera Singer, Conductor and General Director of LA Opera

Gustavo Dudamel – Music & Artistic Director, Los Angeles Philharmonic

Janet Evans – Olympian and Vice-Chair & Director of Athletes, LA 2024

Jim Ford – Senior Advisor, Oaktree Capital and Senior Advisor-Strategic Partnerships, LA 2024

Michelle King – Superintendent, Los Angeles Unified School District

In a statement, LA 2024 chairman Casey Wasserman said of the group:

"The world is changing, and so are the needs of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements. This calls for new thinking, and that is precisely what the diverse group of 117 leaders and innovators on LA 2024’s Board of Directors brings to LA’s bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games."

According to the press release, the board members have donated over $50 million to finance LA2024. In addition, the endeavor is completely privately funded without any government help.

Finally, the International Olympic Committee is set to vote on September 13, 2017 in Lima, Peru.
