Angels comeback takes care of Mariners in final inning
By Keith Rivas
Sunday’s Angels comeback was one of the best we’ve seen.
Being down six runs throughout the course of a game is never easy. By the time the ninth inning rolls around, the expectation in a regular season game is that it’s all but over.
But then the Angels decided to end things differently.
This Angels comeback was not only unlikely, but took the breath right out of Seattle. Los Angeles got help from every part of their roster in the seven run spurt.
Of course, it all started with Albert Pujols. The slugger sent a ball into the stands to get the Angels within five.
Following that swing, Danny Espinosa grounded out to bring Cliff Pennington around. Espinosa’s hit also advanced other runners on base to make it 9-5.
Yunel Escobar was the next to contribute, smacking a double that added two more to their total. With Escobar’s swing, things started looking bleak for Seattle. Los Angeles was now within serious striking distance at 9-7.
Eventually, things came back to Pujols, who knocked in two more runs to tie the game. Finally, Cliff Pennington hit a walk-off single. The miracle hit sent star outfielder Mike Trout across home plate for the final run.
Thanks to a remarkable opening to the season, the Angels are now 5-2. Consequently, the Mariners have only one game in their win column.
If Los Angeles can keep this type of play up, that would be great. Obviously, they’re not going to come back from six runs down every night. But it doesn’t hurt to have a little big of magic here and there.

Last season was far from gracious, so on nights like this, Angels fans have a lot to love and be happy about.
