Ducks vs Flames: Ryan Getzlaf Shines in Game 1

This Ducks vs Flames first round series won’t be a quiet one.
Ryan Getzlaf started his NHL playoff campaign with the big goal, assist, and hit. The Anaheim Ducks captain let his play do the talking in leading his to team to a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames.
Often criticized for lukewarm performances in the playoffs, Getzlaf left no doubt who the best player on the ice was last night.
Lets break down the goal, assist, and hit.
Goal
Initially, Getzlaf got the ball rolling for the Ducks a few minutes after the game started. The Ducks were on the power play when Getzlaf sniped a goal with a wicked wrister that eluded the Flames goalie Brian Elliot.

Eventually, Getzlaf quarterbacked the Ducks power play throughout the night as the Ducks had 7 power play opportunities, scoring 2 goals with the man advantage.
The Assist
Down 2-1 in the second period Getzlaf created an opportunity to tie the game when the Flames were making a line change.
Getzlaf recognized the change and camped out on the blue line receiving a deep pass. Staying onside Getzlaf created a 3 on none situation.
His initial shot was saved. But teammate Ricky Rackell potted the rebound. This tied the game and changed the momentum of the game in favor of the Ducks.
The Ducks would get the go ahead goal a few minutes later on the power play, but it started with the heads up play by Getzlaf.
The Hit
Then, Getzlaf sent a message to both the Flames and anybody who would question his commitment to his team.
He lowers his shoulder and layed down a thundering check that separated Calgary’s captain from the puck.
The arena roared in approval.
Getzlaf’s hit drew a penalty as Flames defenseman cross checked Getzlaf putting the Ducks back on the power play.
By laying down the hit, Getzlaf put Calgary on notice.

It was just one game but the Ducks will only go as far as their big guns will allow them. Based on his play Getzlaf let it be known that he’s ready to take the Ducks far in these playoffs.
