Clippers rumors: A move to San Diego might happen in the future
By Keith Rivas
The latest Clippers rumors talk about the chances of them leaving Los Angeles.
When you think of it, it sounds a little out there. Why would a team set in Staples Center with a core, coach, and loyal fan base leave a city like Los Angeles?
Well that’s exactly where the Clippers are starting find themselves.
After moving to LA from San Diego in 1984, it might be time to return to one of their places prior to Staples Center. Another early playoff exit means more of an uncertain future for a team that most thought would compete for a title.
Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan, and Blake Griffin have not worked out. Whether it’s because of injuries, chemistry, or coaching, it hasn’t gotten them out of round two.
At one point, it got them a 3-1 series lead over the Houston Rockets in 2015. But as we know, it wasn’t a safe lead and the Clippers let the series slip away.
There’s already talk of reported interest from the Clippers to explore venues outside of Staples Center. One of those options includes a chance to play at the Inglewood arena that will host the Rams and Chargers.
If they decide to go to other ventures away from that, returning to San Diego might not be such a bad idea.
When Steve Ballmer took over in 2014, a story came from The San Diego Union-Tribune questioning whether he would take things back to San Diego.
Honestly, it’d be a relocation unlike anything we’ve seen in sports before. However, it might be what the team needs.
San Diego provides a fresh start for the franchise. Not succeeding in LA carries a shadow that they won’t want to carry with them forever.
