The NBA season is over, yet the Lakers rumors continue to roll in.

Recent Lakers rumors to roll in are who will be starting at the center position in the 2018 season?

In the 2017 season, Timofey Mozgov was the starting center with Tarik Black coming off the bench.

About halfway through the season rookie center Ivica Zubac earned the starting spot by working hard and Luke Walton benched Mozgov. Mozgov was benched for multiple reasons. The first is reason is that Mozgov was inconsistent.

Secondly, the Lakers started losing, then Zubac ended up performing well off the bench and earned a starting role. Also, Luke Walton wanted to experiment with the starting lineup, hence he inserted Zubac in the lineup to see how he performed with other players who started.

All three centers were rotated in the starting lineup and Luke Walton was able to view how each player played with other teammates who started. Additionally, Walton was assessing his teams strengths and weaknesses.

Los Angeles has been looking for a player at the center position and they finally found them. Yes I said them! They have three talented players on the roster who play center. Over the summer and into the 2018 regular season, we can all say that there is going to be a competition for the role as starting center.

Timofey Mozgov recently said that he isn’t sure Zubac is ready to be a full time starter just yet. Mozgov is ready to give it all he has to earn the starting role for the 2018 regular season.

When the team is playing cohesively as an unit, as they should be no matter who is in the game they all perform to their highest levels. Mozgov did well this year, but he didn’t perform at his highest level.

Timofey wants to earn the starting center role back and win championships. Additionally, Zubac and Black also want to earn that role as well.  Now the process of exploring various options of playing all three centers in the game has begun.

Also, each center has their own strengths. Walton over the off-season will look on how incorporate all their strengths int he game for the team success.
