Closing Thoughts

Before they get back to the top of the league, they’ll have to climb their division, conference, and also city.

Right now, Golden State is still the team to beat in the Pacific division, and the Spurs, Rockets, and even Jazz are still a threat in the conference.

But Los Angeles is back up for grabs.

With the potentially devastating off-season that the Clippers have set themselves up for, it’s the perfect time for the Lakers to step on the gas pedal. Free agents such as Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, and J.J. Redick — three starters, mind you — are expected to explore options elsewhere.

If the Clippers fail to pull any big names in to fill those gaps (or re-sign them), the Lakers will have a shot as soon as next season to be the best basketball team at Staples Center.
