Before the lottery there has been Lakers rumors on what will the team do with the pick they receive.

Now after receiving the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, the Lakers rumors are who will they select in the draft?

Many believe they will select Lonzo Ball point guard form UCLA. Yes he would impact the team because he can make plays. There is no doubt he has game, hence he is a hot topic to discuss.

The Lakers have plenty of options with having the second overall pick. They have options because one the Celtics don’t need a point guard and the Lakers want one but don’t need one necessarily.

What the Lakers need is a play maker and a leader who isn’t a superstar and who is humble. What if I told you the Lakers are not interested in drafting Lonzo Ball?

Some of you may call me crazy. I would rebuttal and say it makes complete sense. All I ask is for you to hear me out. There are a minimum of three reasons why they won’t draft Lonzo Ball.

In brief they are they trust their young core, need a play maker, and have a coach who is building a championship team. Also, this coach knows how to win a championship.

Everyone knows the Celtics don’t need a point guard, yet just like last year they may shock everyone in the NBA. However, this year the Lakers also have a chance to shock the NBA world.

Everyone knows Lonzo Ball will still be available, yet who do the Lakers really need to draft and want to draft?

If they draft a point guard I see De’Aaron Fox being selected as he is recently rising up on draft boards. Fox, according to Bleacher Report, is rising up on draft boards past Ball.

More from LA Sports Hub

If they don’t pick him up, I see them drafting Malik Monk. I see this because he would backup Clarkson or Russell at shooting guard. Also, the Lakers would most likely sign a free agent small forward. Or draft a small forward. Additionally, that is why I don’t see them drafting Josh Jackson.

If LA doesn’t surprise with their second overall pick they will with their 28th overall pick. They will surprise us because they will be one of a few teams with multiple picks in the first round.

In these Lakers rumors and other Lakers rumors LA is expected to take the best player in the draft. Position doesn’t matter that much currently.

The 76ers need a point guard and it make sense for Ball to go there.

Then the Celtics will also surprise fans with their pick. Realistically, they need a reserve center since Olynk may be gone soon. The surprise players Boston may select are T.J. Leaf or Lauri Markkanen.

Lastly, that leaves the Lakers with plenty of options at number two, even without drafting Ball.

Fox, Monk or another player LA is in love with will land on the Lakers. Hence why the Lakers will surprise the NBA world.

Nonetheless LA is going to draft the best player available who can lead the team to the playoffs quietly.
