Lakers rumors: Drafting Lonzo gives LaVar what he wants
By Keith Rivas
The latest Lakers rumors look at why drafting Lonzo Ball is really a win for his father.
Following the NBA Draft Lottery, the Los Angeles Lakers got lucky once again. For the third straight season, the purple and gold will pick second on draft night.
There are some obvious needs that they may want to address at point guard, but how they do it is up to them. This year features a draft class heavy in talented point guards.

Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball, and De’Aaron Fox round out the top three available for pick up. Fultz is likely to go first overall to the Boston Celtics, leaving the Lakers with a choice between Ball and Fox.
Lonzo has wanted to play for the Lakers for as long as he can remember. He’s made it clear in his interviews after college that Los Angeles is where he wants to be.
But what if the Lakers ignore that?
The Lakers would be fools to ignore the potential distraction that comes with Lonzo by way of his water. For those waiting to see the Big Baller Brand go away, having Lonzo picked up by the Lakers does just the opposite.
Instead of letting the family brand try to compete on the bigger market — and in all likelihood not stick around — it gives life to the triple B’s.
Despite the team insisting that LaVar would not be a deterrent in their decision to draft Ball or not, that’s a task much easier said than done.
Additionally, LaVar still has two more kids to get through UCLA and the NBA. Being the first one in the family, the pressure of Lonzo getting what his dad wants should be higher than for the other two.
And all the Lakers have to do is say no, draft a guy that’s just as good if not better, and move on.
