Josh Jackson

Although many expect UCLA point guard, and expensive shoe connoisseur, to head to the Lakers with the second overall selection in the 2017 NBA Draft, that is not concrete. The Lakers reportedly have narrowed their options down to four prospects, with Kansas small forward Josh Jackson being one.

Josh Jackson is one of the most talented guys in the draft, but often gets overlooked because of guys like Markelle Fultz and Ball. Jackson had a great freshman year for the Jayhawks, averaging 16.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. Primarily playing small forward at Kansas, Jackson would likely see a similar path as Kevin Durant and play shooting guard his rookie year.

His flexibility to play shooting guard is likely what is drawing so much interest from the Los Angeles Lakers. Every prospect that the Lakers are seemingly honed in on would all join D’Angelo Russell in the backcourt. Most are point guards, but Jackson would be able to play shooting guard and allow D’Angelo Russell to play the point.

However, the Lakers already have exactly the kind of player Jackson is in Brandon Ingram. The last thing the Lakers need in the draft is another lanky, thin young player whose progression relies on his ability to score the basketball. The Lakers do not need another Brandon Ingram, they need a playmaker. Jackson, unfortunately, is not what the Lakers need.
