NBA Free Agency 2017: 15 free agent targets for the Clippers
By Keith Rivas
Closing Thoughts
Trying to make it through the summer without feeling bad for the Clippers might be harder than you think. Once thought to be real contenders with the core they had at one point, all of those hopes and dreams are coming to a very real and very sudden ending.
Surprisingly, it doesn’t seem like the Clippers are that panicked. The reality is that losing Chris Paul and Blake Griffin comes as closure, and the team should treat it as such.
While it’s not the end of the world, per say, it does bring to question how the team can rebuild from here. In addition, how long Doc Rivers stays in town or remains a part of their future is also up for discussion.
If the team can land some, or any, of these free agents, they’ll be okay next season. Maybe not great or entertaining, but that’s just where they find themselves.
The quicker they can get better without the aging, oft-injured stars the better. It’ll keep the team in contention longer than fans might realize, and could be best for all parties involved.
Paul could bolt to San Antonio to chase a ring — or at least a conference finals appearance. And Griffin now has a chance to go home to Oklahoma with the Thunder or somewhere that can show him the money.
