Los Angeles Kings: Dave Lowry joins John Stevens’ staff
In yet another offseason move, the Los Angeles Kings made another splash with their newest hiring; Dave Lowry.
Here we go again with coaches ganging up with the victorious Los Angeles Kings. The team has brought in more company with Dave Lowry joining new coach John Stevens’ staff as assistant coach. Lowry will specifically be part of coach Bill Ranford’s goaltending team.
Lowry carries an honorable hockey history with him coaching in the WHL and NHL. He has also earned a WHL Coach of the Year award twice.
He is the former head coach of the Canadian National Junior Team. To cap his recent coaching, he was the coach for the Calgary Flames for a three-year period from 2009-12. To top it all, he even went as far as to coach the Victoria Royals for five seasons.
His coaching career starts off as being an assistant coach for the Calgary Hitmen under the WHL for the 2008-09 season which eventually led him to become the head coach for the Flames under the NHL.
Now his history doesn’t stop at just being an outstanding coach but also a player. Playing in more than 1,000 games and over 100 playoffs, Lowry has been up and about playing in five different teams for 20 seasons total for the NHL.
His coaching for the Victoria Royals was notable when he went to playoffs with the team, especially during the 2012-13 and current seasons. He scored a total of 36 points while coaching in the playoffs, spreading his impressive reign vibrant sportsmanship.
He played for teams such as the Vancouver Canucks, the San Jose Sharks, and of course the team he had recently coached, Calgary Flames.

The combination of being part of a team and coaching a team will serve his purpose well while assisting the Kings’ coach with his duties.
He’s not joining the Kings’ staff alone but also his son Joel, who also has been chiming in as a player since his draft in 2011.
Not to mention, his son has some history in NHL and also the AHL as he played for the Ontario Reign. The hiring of Dave Lowry should serve as a reminder of more potential coming out of the Los Angeles Kings.
Besides Lowry’s new presence, the addition of another staff member will be announced at a later date. Despite the Kings hiring him, the other team he has played for, the Canucks also expressed interest in having him coach them.

Although his playing career terminated in the 2003-04 season, he didn’t back completely back off from the hockey life but replaced his duty as a coach for the rookies and pros to come.
