Lakers rumors: How “Showtime” lineup matches up versus Golden State
By Keith Rivas
Steph Curry vs Magic Johnson
In terms of three point shooting, it’s not even a contest. Curry has established himself as elite from beyond the arc, while Johnson wouldn’t be able to out shoot him from that distance.

Overall, Curry’s current stat line out performs Johnson in only one area — scoring. Putting in around 25 points per game for Golden State, the problem for the Warriors is if his shot stops falling.
Once that’s taken away from him, it’s hard to consider him one of the game’s best. He doesn’t have the size to rebound a lot against opposing big men, let alone his own guys. In addition, he averages under seven assists per game.
Where the two point guards are tied doesn’t have to do with averages, but rather regular season MVP awards. Both have won two in their careers, with Johnson dominating Curry in every other department.
Johnson has the following achievements over Curry:
- 12x All-Star vs 4x All-Star
- 10x All-NBA vs 4x All-NBA
- 5x NBA champ vs 1x NBA champ
- 3x Finals MVP vs never been Finals MVP
At the end of the argument, it’s pretty clear that while Curry would have a very different style, Johnson is the better player and would win that match up.
