His mentality wouldn’t be the same

Before you knock this point, hear me out. Also, to further clarify any initial reaction you have to this headline, this is not a knock on his work ethic. That’s a much different conversation, and there’s no doubt that he’d still play as good as he possibly can.

However, the point that should be taken from this part of the piece is that he’s already done what he set out to do. Even during the latest championship bout with Golden State, James has made it clear that there’s nothing else he needs to prove.

Coming to Los Angeles, one of James’ biggest potential motives is to take a division and conference crown from Golden State. Given how he owns the Eastern Conference, and has for so long, it’d be the one challenge he could put himself to.

The thing about that, though, is that it might appear that his motives are off.

Is he trying to win another ring, like he’s done so well throughout his career (or at least making the Finals). Or, on the other hand, has he become so sick of the Warriors that this is how he plans to drown them out?

Could be, but that’s not what the Lakers are trying to rush into next summer.
