His consistency is crucial

An additional attribute the team should want in a potential veteran leader is consistency. Allen is by no means a superstar, but he’s enough of a difference maker regardless.

Plus, the Lakers aren’t going to be depending on him for the majority of their scoring anyway. D’Angelo Russell is likely going to be more of an off the ball shooting guard, while whoever they draft will be able to shoot and score at will.

In his time with Memphis, Allen was able to hover around a nine point scoring average for seven seasons. He also averages around five rebounds per game and could provide some much needed assistance on the boards.

Instead of seeing spurts, Allen could be that go-to shooter late in games. The hope there, obviously, is that the consistency he’s been able to show elsewhere doesn’t go away.

Also, it is another area where D’Angelo Russell could use a more experienced player to take him under his arm. Showing Russell more of the shooting guard position and how to excel in it will not only help the team next season, but long after Allen’s potential retirement.

Consistency is in the top three of things to keep in mind to build a contender. The other two are talent and chemistry.

Los Angeles has the latter two, they just need to find someone that can help them keep a good rhythm.
