Closing Thoughts

Ultimately, it’s still his decision to make.

Golden State is on the verge of a dynasty after their last championship, and they might already be if they’d won things last season. The Warriors can win at least three more titles with the core that they have, but after that there’s too many questions to know for sure.

In terms of shooting, physicality, and chemistry, there really hasn’t been a team like this in NBA history. They shoot, pass, and rebound extremely well, with the court vision to almost always find the open man.

Depending on the true success moving forward, though, Klay Thompson may be beckoned to look at the bigger picture. If the Warriors fail to defend their title next season, or chemistry issues pop up, that will undoubtedly have a role in how he views his options in 2019.

It’d be very hard for the Warriors to replace him, on top of all of that. They might have him third or fourth on the totem pole now, but that doesn’t mean they can win without him.

Take Thompson away, and a large defensive part of the Finals win goes with it. His shooting may have been off this time around, but that’s not all that he has to offer.

Los Angeles would be wise to throw their hat in the ring by then, if not sooner. Because you never know how a star like him might feel when there’s a chance to be free.
