Loyalty doesn’t mean much in the NBA anymore

Unfortunately, being loyal to the team that drafted you doesn’t seem to have the same meaning it used to. That’s not to expand on loyalty being ineffective in society, but in basketball terms, it may not be what’s best for the players anymore.

Russell Westbrook has already experienced that first hand with Kevin Durant leaving for Golden State last summer.

While he’s expressed his love for the Thunder, he hasn’t been through the worst of times with them yet. Yes, last season was definitely a culture shock, but Westbrook adjusted in amazing fashion.

Setting the league record for triple doubles in a season was nice, but can we really expect him to be that good every year?

No, of course not.

That in mind, the Thunder will probably not have a good a season as they had without Kevin Durant ever again. Westbrook is only getting older, and if they don’t fix the help around him soon, why would he want to put all of that on him?

Even if Oklahoma City ends up with Blake Griffin, there’s still time for that experiment to fail. We’ll know whether or not Westbrook will have the former Sooner on his team or not by the start of next season.

If things go downhill from there, don’t expect him to stay much longer.
