Closing Thoughts

While all of these things are worth considering, they aren’t reasons that will stop the team from doing a deal around the time of the draft, if not before. Magic Johnson sees Paul George as his first outside piece to bringing the Lakers back to dominance.

If he’s right, there’s no doubt that he’ll look like a genius. Especially if Russell and Mozgov fail to bring anything fruitful to Brooklyn.

Given that the deal with the Nets is what gives them the cap space freedom they’ve been needing, the only way to know if it was a bad deal is to wait it out.

Obviously, if they do trade for the superstar in George, the hope is that they can re-sign him as a free agent for much longer. If all they get out of him is one season, the fans and possibly players on the team will have something to say.

Keep in mind that with all of these free agents pursuits in the air, it’s not like they haven’t been here before. The last thing they’re hoping this turns into is when they had Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, and Dwight Howard all in purple and gold.

But let’s hope that doesn’t happen, either.
