It gives them a much different set of expectations

When they were able to pry Chris Paul away from the Lakers, the expectations on the team went through the roof. Thoughts of a championship and dreams of a dynasty were not far from the truth, at least on paper.

As it were, the Clippers were offering no more to their fans than a pipe dream. It’s unfortunate, because of the multiple chances they had, but this trade moves them on from that.

Plus, why try to fix it if you know it’s broken for good?

A core of Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan, and Blake Griffin couldn’t get it done — just a fact. Now that they’ve got a mix of younger talent and veterans, Doc Rivers will have to decide many crucial things this summer.

Nothing helps them more right away than the consistency they’ll get from Lou Williams off the bench. It doesn’t have to be 30 points per night, but rather the fact that when he’s on a roll, he’s nearly untouchable.

Any of the weight from those days in Los Angeles is now on Houston. They’ll now have James Harden and Chris Paul to work with, while having to figure out what to do at point guard.

This leaves the Rockets with their own dilemma to work out. And now they can focus on getting back to winning, because the only thing they’ve done consistently lately is disappoint.
