The latest Clippers news involves a trade that brings Lou Williams back to Los Angeles.

After getting sent to Houston by the Lakers, Lou Williams got the chance to play for a contender. Houston was primed to give both San Antonio and Golden State trouble, but fell flat in the second round.

Following the Chris Paul trade before the end of the month, Williams returns to Los Angeles, but with the Clippers. Now with the other team from Los Angeles, Williams can be that go-to scorer and leader off the bench.

With Chris Paul, the Clippers didn’t have too many dependable players that could step up that weren’t starters. Add that to the injury bug that couldn’t seem to leave them alone, and it’s easy to see why they struggled so much.

However, Williams has been incredibly consistent as a sixth man, especially during last season. Without him, Los Angeles wouldn’t have been able to get off to a 10-10 start or compete in a lot of their early season games.

In Houston, it was a bit of a different story, but he was able to blend in okay with James Harden running the show.

Additionally, the Clippers will get excellent shooting from the veteran. They’ll need all the help they can get, if we’re honest.

Depending on what they do with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, Williams might be their best player. Patrick Beverley also deserves to be in that conversation in terms of defense, with Williams being just as good of a two way player.

It’s hard to say yet if they’ll make the playoffs without their previous core, but they’re going to try. Still in somewhat of a rebuild, the Lakers might not be set to challenge the Clippers just yet.
