NBA Free Agency: Three reasons Lakers win by signing KCP
By Keith Rivas
He’s their secret weapon to landing a superstar
If putting together a better team is what it’ll take to lure Paul George next summer, that’s exactly what this Lakers front office will do. Again, they didn’t take long to announce the signing of a talented young guard after George’s interesting comments about coming home.
Klay Thompson has also had his name in the rumor mill, but that’s speculation — the Lakers now have a tangible star in their midst. While he didn’t make or break Detroit, Caldwell-Pope will be a deadly weapon alongside Lonzo Ball.
If it is in fact true that Ball can make the guys around him better, there’s room to believe it’ll be a breakout season for the fifth year star. Also, if he succeeds with the Lakers on a one year deal, imagine what that might do when it comes to keeping him long term.

Los Angeles can’t be without a strong shooting guard. It was supposed to be D’Angelo Russell, but that is a whole different story. Once the Lakers know they can work well with him in the lineup, it’s not likely that he’ll jump ship next summer.
The potential to add Paul George to the team might also add some fuel to the fire. This Lakers team could look scary good and nobody seems to believe it just yet except the front office. They’re already treating Ball like he’ll be legendary and the rest of the young core like they’re championship material.
Time will tell us if that faith was well-placed or if it’ll fall apart when it matters most. But for the time being, they’re doing what it’ll take to secure a decision from Paul George. Look at it as the first real domino to fall.
From here, everything gets easier.
