Kyrie Irving Trade: Three reasons it makes a lot of sense for Lakers

It’ll tell us how bad LA really wants a superstar
Okay, so we get it – Paul George to LA is a romance that is great for speculation, but the reality is that it might not happen. Knowing that, you would think that the Lakers brass would be bold enough to push the envelope with other stars.
There’s nothing wrong with signing guys like KCP, but they are by no means the fundamental game changer in the same caliber as Kyrie Irving. All of the conversation about making the Lakers great and returning them to what they once were, but what about now?
This trade opportunity gives us the chance to honestly evaluate Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka. They may have made some terrific draft decisions, but we still haven’t played a regular season game.

While just 25, Irving has plenty of playoff and championship experience under his belt. Rumor has it that Johnson wants a veteran who would be able to mentor Ball, and it’s hard to grasp why Irving wouldn’t immediately enter this conversation.
The former number one overall pick could find a strong home in Los Angeles. With a supporting cast that’s growing every year, the Lakers have plenty of potential awaiting the young point guard.
It never seemed to be that he and Cleveland would stay together forever. How they seem to be heading for a divorce is a steam rolling conclusion nobody saw coming.
But what are they going to do about it?
If the Lakers are that hell-bent on Paul George, this will show us they’re more worried about having him specifically on the team instead of a star in general. Also, it would tell us a bit more of their potential pursuit of LeBron James next summer.
