With nothing yet determined on a Kyrie Irving trade, the Clippers reportedly made a huge offer.

Someone with the value of Kyrie Irving can bring out the best and worst of teams trying to acquire him. The star point guard has made it clear to Cavaliers management that he wants out, even providing a short list of cities to be traded to.

Dealing with that drama isn’t what the Cavs really wanted or expected. Coming off of a third straight trip to the NBA Finals, one might think that Kyrie Irving would settle down before doing something like this.

The reality is that he’s done playing in the shadow of LeBron James. From that point of view, it’s hard to blame him for wanting to jump ship. But the thought of where to is the thing worth questioning.

Los Angeles wouldn’t be a bad fit for him, but it might do more good for the organization than the player. Without Chris Pauil, who was traded to Houston this summer, the Clippers are embracing a whole new look.

Irving would give them immediate star power, but it might not be on the top of his wish list. Mainly because of the fact that the Clippers haven’t had much playoff success in recent years, and that might have been what lead to Paul’s departure.

It’s reported by ClutchPoints that an offer from Los Angeles to Cleveland was brought up involving DeAndre Jordan and Patrick Beverley. The team tried desperately to keep Jordan from venturing to Dallas last summer, while Beverley was acquired in the CP3 deal.

Doubtful at this point, the trade would’ve left the Clippers without another starting piece to their core, and would’ve been the fourth starting piece to leave. Blake Griffin being the only player to stay.

J.J. Redick went to Philly, while Chris Paul and Luc Mbah a Moute found a new team in Houston.

It was smart of the Clippers to make a big offer for Irving, even if it doesn’t pan out. Irving has a few years left on his contract, and depending on how the Cavs handle this, he could still be a target of the Clippers down the road.

But for right now, it looks like Los Angeles will just have to deal with what they’ve got for right now.
