The latest Lakers rumors are about why they’ll surpass their expectations.

This season has a lot to look forward to, with next summer carrying even heavier Lakers rumors. Potential free agent pursuits of big names like Paul George, Russell Westbrook, and even LeBron James have all eyes on how this year pans out.

Rookie sensations Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma will have a lot to prove. Ball will have the weight of his father’s words in addition to the hype behind being picked second overall in the 2017 draft. As for Kuzma, his excellent play in Las Vegas during Summer League gives the Lakers every reason to be excited about the future.

The main reason that they will win more than the projected 33 games is a simple one — chemistry. As hard as it may be to admit for some, the team didn’t have too much of that under D’Angelo Russell.

While the young core played well on occasion, consistency was also an issue. This seemed rooted in the rookie season drama that Russell had with Nick Young off the court. It created a wall, if you will, between the then Lakers point guard of the future and where we are today.

Teammates began isolating him and it was too easy to feel the friction. With Lonzo Ball, despite the drama his dad may create at times while stirring the pot, the flow of the game will improve greatly.

After not doing so well in his debut, Lonzo Ball recovered for a historic Summer League. He set the record for more averaged assists in the Summer League’s history, and played every game except the Summer League title game, which Los Angeles won.

The bottom line is that they have the best young talent in the entire NBA. Their growing young core, if maturity comes through for Brandon Ingram and Julius Randle especially, will be enticing to any of the big names mentioned earlier.

With plenty of motivation and more doubters to prove wrong than they need, the Lakers will have what it takes to win at least 37-40 games next season. It’s a bold prediction, but the reality is that this is the type of season that we’ve been waiting so long to see out of the purple and gold.
