The Lakers are making good moves for the future, according to their former coach.

Bryon Scott, a former coach the Los Angeles Lakers made a bold statement saying that the Lakers will not have a winning season this year.

Ironically, as coach of the Lakers he had a losing record. As a coach who had chances to assist the Lakers organization in being great, this is a bold statement. Everyone does have a right to their opinion.

Opinions and facts are, of course, complete opposites. Opinions are what others tend to think, while facts are true. Bryon Scott could still be right, however we will only know for sure when the season ends.

Before the season even starts Los Angeles has started to make moves. They started first in the draft and with free agent signings. One of their blockbuster deals for themselves was trading D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov to the Nets.

In return they received center Brooke Lopez and 27th draft pick Kyle Kuzma along with latter pick Thomas Bryant. LA had many centers and during this off-season they narrowed it down to three. In order on the depth chart is Lopez, Zubac, and Bryant.

More from LA Sports Hub

Lopez will be their starter, as he was the star player on the Brooklyn Nets. Ironically, when the Nets made the postseason, that was the year he broke his foot and missed most if not all of the season.

Secondly, Zubac is a second year player with upside and lastly Bryant is a rookie who was acquired in a trade with the Jazz alongside Josh Hart. In return the Jazz received Tony Bradley. These are young and incoming rookies who LA is bolstering the roster with.

Not to forget they even agreed to sign Kentavious Caldwell Pope from the Detroit Pistons. He is another young player with upside they added to the roster who is a starter.

Lastly, not to mention they drafted point guard Lonzo Ball with the second round pick in the draft. Drafting Ball is why the Lakers traded Russel and Mozgov, along with making room for cap space.

The Lakers have a new starting roster for the 2018 season with some old faces and new faces mixed in. One positive takeaway from this off-season is they have a quality bench. The sky is the limit for LA.

Magic Johnson mentioned, the Lakers future is bright before, Scott said the team will not be good this year. Two reasons the Lakers will be good in 2018 is because they have a new starting roster and a quality bench.

Additionally, the summer league for the rookies proved the Lakers are headed in the right direction. Also, new teammates have said Lonzo Ball does make his teammates better and that the atmosphere at practice is enlightening.

On behalf of Scott he did mention, the Lakers will be much more improved than they have been in the past, yet he still doesn’t think they will be good.
