For the LA Rams, too much is at stake to keep waiting around for Jared Goff.

If their former number one pick can’t keep up and grow into one of the better quarterbacks in the league soon, the LA Rams may be forced into a hard decision. Some earlier in the summer called for Sean Mannion to get the start over Jared Goff, but that’s a decision that wouldn’t be smart if Goff being a franchise QB is really true.

How Los Angeles handled the situation with Goff last year was intriguing, mainly because they didn’t decide to start him until way later in the season. Before then, Case Keenum got the nod, but he’s no longer around the team.

Now, Goff is at a point in his career where he’s really deciding which path to take at a fork he can’t go back to. Either he finds a way to live up to the hype and potential surrounding him, or he’ll continue to be mediocre and might have to find a different team in the near future.

The reason for bringing this up is two fold. The Rams’ offense has much more weapons this season than in the past with Goff, and one of those that has really shown up, or so we hope, is Todd Gurley.

As long as the star running back can perform like his stellar rookie season, Goff really has no excuse no to be able to produce offensively. Add to that the trade that the Rams made over the summer for receiver Sammy Watkins.

Coming from Buffalo, Watkins knows what it’s like to have to play with an underachieving QB. Goff can’t afford to be that kind of guy any longer, and the Rams can’t wait for him to get up to speed.

It’s  not easy being the number one overall pick in the NFL Draft, but at some point you have to prove people wrong or let them know that they were right about this being a weak spot of yours. Now that Goff will likely have all season to show us what he’s got — barring a benching incident or major injury — he’s no longer excusable.
