Rams defense vs Colts offense

By bringing in Super Bowl winning coach Wade Phillips, the defense improved. The defense much is expected of them this season. They did release some players in William Hayes and others. Most recently when they traded away E.J. Gaines for Sammy Watkins. Gaines was one of their athletic instinct players.

The Rams defense has been a staple for the team the last few years. Despite winning four games last year their defense was really good. They had multiple stars on defense and they still do. Also, they brought in players from other teams who will fit into the Rams system and become stars.

Speaking of stars one of their productive defensive linemen has yet to practice because he is holding out. This player is Pro Bowler Aaron Donald. Therefore don’t expect him to be playing week one. There is no guarantee he will or won’t play but as of now he won’t play unless otherwise noted.

Once again this is why this week one match up is more fair than you think. Andrew Luck won’t play and possibly neither will Aaron Donald. Who knows maybe they will. Other star studded players they brought in for defense are veteran Connor Barwin and cornerback Kayvon Webster. They both have playoff experience and Webster won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos with Wade Phillips.

Los Angeles is hoping Phillips can transform their defense into a championship defense. You would think it would be easy because of the caliber of the players. However, it is more difficult than we can think especially when one is holding out.

Nonetheless the game must go on and the next man will step up. We don’t know who the next man is but Phillips and the Rams do. Just how good is their defense? Well in 2016 they were ranked 9th overall in total team defense.

Improvement just means going up and they can only keep improving. Once Phillips understands his players expect this defense to become a championship defense. Then the Rams will have a chance to win a playoff game and Super Bowl. It won’t change overnight although it is possible.
