The MLB world would witness a historic collapse if the Dodgers didn’t win the NL West.

Alright, so we’ve gone from World Series or bust to World Series is possible to the Dodgers might not make it past the first round of the playoffs. All in all, it’s safe to say that losing eleven of twelve games during a stretch is never a good thing, but it’s even worse when all of that time you’re giving up ground in your division.

It didn’t even look close for the majority of the year, but now the Arizona Diamondbacks really are within striking distance. Even if the Dodgers don’t blow the entire lead in the standings, the fact that we have to even have this discussion is remarkable in its own right.

We also have transitioned from questioning whether this is the best team ever assembled, as declared by Sports Illustrated, to wondering how they’re going to stop the bleeding when nobody steps up. It’s the tale of two teams, and fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers do not need more epic collapses.

All they want is for the Dodgers to finally be good enough to make it to and win the World Series. A great opportunity passed Los Angeles by last season after they blew a 2-1 lead in the NLCS versus the eventual champion Cubs.

Now, or so we hoped, would be their year to take home what’s theirs. However, the Dodgers haven’t really shown that they’re capable of putting this nightmare losing streak to an end.

The death punch for them would be an NLDS match up against Arizona; a series which they might not even stand a chance if the momentum stays the same. The Dodgers still have around a ten game lead, but that can change a moment’s notice — and now their worst fear has become a potential reality.
