We have talked about this exact same trade before, except with the Los Angeles Clippers and DeAndre Jordan. However, despite Jordan and Lopez being too vastly different centers, Cleveland can benefit from either LA center. LeBron and company are in full ring chase mode, so they can use any talent they can get.

Cleveland is undergoing a shake-up of their own. They flipped starting point guards with the Celtics, bringing in Isaiah Thomas and new starting power forward Jae Crowder. Derrick Rose was brought on to eat minutes off the bench but may see a significant role with Thomas out.

Cleveland also brought in veteran, and real-life best friend to LeBron, shooting guard Dwayne Wade. In turn, the Cavaliers are playing an immensely small lineup with Kevin Love at center. They lack a true big man outside of Tristan Thompson, who is now on the bench.

However, they do have a perfect candidate in Brook Lopez. Lopez can stretch the floor like Love, giving the team that floor spacing they desire. Plus, he can snag rebounds and block shots at a much higher rate. This move would essentially make them favorites over the Golden State Warriors.

As for the Lakers, it seems very wise to trade one year of Lopez for multiple years of Thompson as well as the Nets pick. That pick is almost guaranteed to be in the top five, so the Lakers can add to their young core as well. Lopez initially was a short-term investment but could turn into a long-term one.
