Brice Johnson will become a free agent in the summer as a result of the move.

There were some names worth mentioning that popped up with regard to their team not picking up their option from their rookie contract. Among those players was Brice Johnson of the Clippers, who was selected 25th overall by Los Angeles in 2016.

Johnson has a salary of just $1.5 million, so it’s not a cap issue, but seems more just like the Clippers are moving on. The 23-year old power forward has career averages of just 2.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game to show for it.

There’s nothing wrong with this move by the Clippers, it just now becomes a matter of where he’ll land outside of Los Angeles. The Clippers aren’t obviously going to pursue him, and without that being a factor, it’s safe to say that he could end up anywhere.

Besides, Johnson, NBC Sports provided a list of some of the other guys that had their team options rejected, including Jahlil Okafor (PHI), Kevon Looney (GSW), and Wade Baldwin (MEM), among others.

The move also doesn’t come as too much of a surprise because of the fact that Johnson has only played in five games so far in his two years in the league combined.

Not to mention that, in terms of field goals, he’s just 7-12 over that span as well. Not making much of an impact on the team probably factored heavily into this decision by the Clippers, so for right now it’s just a matter of waiting to see where he winds up.

Los Angeles has had some success with the way their lineup is, including their noteworthy 4-0 start to the season. The Clippers will move forward from this situation without any major effect on the team.
