3. Trade for Kolten Wong

If I was Andrew Friedman one of the first moves I would do this offseason is inquire about Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong. I have been clamoring over this fit for weeks now, and if any deal were to get done, this would be the best fit not only for Wong but for the Dodgers.

Wong is the odd man out in St. Louis. Young infielders Paul DeJong and Aledymis Diaz will likely man second base and shortstop while healthy next year. Jedd Gyorko is a solid third baseman for the Cardinals and Matt Carpenter has the first base role. While Wong can be a key depth piece, the Cardinals can benefit elsewhere from his talents.

Thus, the team can trade him to the Los Angeles Dodgers in return for some starting pitching and a bullpen arm.

Sending the Cardinals a package of Hyun-Jin Ryu, Josh Fields and Dustin May (Dodgers #15 prospect) is a fair package for Wong. The Cardinals get depth now and get an arm that can help in the future.

In return, the Dodgers get the perfect piece to platoon alongside Forsythe. Wong can start 90% of the games against right-handers.

The left-handed hitting second baseman hit .288 against right-handers last season. Not only that, his .274 mark against lefties provides a cushion if any infield injuries occur.

Not to mention that Wong possesses something the Dodgers are lacking: speed. Although the team does have Andrew Toles and Chris Taylor, LA has no real significant stealing threat. Wong can bring 20 stolen bases with him to the Dodgers.

Honestly, Kolten Wong is a match made in heaven for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Although this is not a fantasy land and the most practical deal doesn’t always happen, it is something the Dodgers front office should explore. Of the three, this looks to be the best use of a platoon at second base.
