Lakers Rumors: Three reasons Kyle Kuzma is the team MVP
By Keith Rivas
He’s their top scorer that nobody saw coming
Guys like Jordan Clarkson and Brandon Ingram were somewhat foreseen as having strong seasons this year. Ingram was called on by Magic Johnson to lead the team in scoring and also be a cornerstone player that the front office was unwilling to part with.
Jordan Clarkson was re-signed to the tune of four years and $50 million last summer, so you know they weren’t expecting meager numbers from him.

However, Kyle Kuzma has bested them both in points per game, with an average of 16.7. Brandon Ingram is a point behind with 15.7 per game, and Jordan Clarkson isn’t far behind that with his 15.7.
That’s before we even realize that he’s leading the team in field goal percentage (50%) as well as their best three point threat at just shy of 38% from deep.
The fact that Kuzma has been able to transition his game so seamlessly when it comes to being a scorer is phenomenal. If Kuzma can keep up a consistent scoring average like he’s done so far, the Lakers front office will have no choice but to pat themselves on the back for getting a steal in the draft and then that same selection went above and beyond what anyone thought they could do.
What’s even better about all of this is the fact that the Lakers can actually make a playoff push if he is able to stay as consistent of a scorer as we think that he can. Think about it — the biggest plus that the Lakers would have over any team in the Western Conference right now might actually be in their second unit.
