Josh Rosen should choose to stay one more year at UCLA
By Keith Rivas
As the NFL Draft nears, Josh Rosen should steer clear of the next level for now.
It’s a harder decision than some might make it out to be, but staying in school is the best option for UCLA phenom Josh Rosen right now. Part of it has to do with the Cleveland Browns owning two top-five picks this year and their history of killing the careers of countless quarterbacks.
But is that really worth not going pro when he’s established himself as, at the very least, a quality prospect? Yes — here’s why.
The rest of the teams available to make a selection in the top ten are either not in need of a starting quarterback or a danger zone that quarterbacks shouldn’t want to play in no matter what. It’s the risk that Sam Darnold is also considering, and one that may make him stay behind in Southern California as well.
Think about it for a second, though, really. The Browns already have that stellar reputation that comes with cursing and crushing the hopes and dreams of whoever is under center. In the top five, you also run the risk of going to Denver, Indianapolis, or New York (Giants).

Denver already has young quarterbacks to work with, Indianapolis isn’t the most attractive place to go and try to save right now, and the Giants are going to put more pressure on a young quarterback to resurrect them than we’ve probably seen in quite some time.
The issues that New York had with Eli Manning that led to Geno Smith starting would possibly make them desperate, and with the number two pick behind the Browns, it’s another place Rosen should definitely avoid for right now.
Add to that the fact that teams picking 6-10 aren’t really in need of someone like Rosen. With the exception of the Jets possibly taking him at number six, teams picking in the last four of the top ten include Tampa Bay, Oakland, San Francisco, and Chicago.
All of which already have the one they want long term already under center.
With that in mind, Rosen staying behind also gives him the opportunity to show scouts he can excel with a different coaching style as Chip Kelly has taken over for the exiled Jim Mora.

All things considered, it’s what best for the UCLA quarterback. He didn’t come all of this way to have his career in the NFL be a dumpster fire, right?
