Los Angeles Lakers have a business decision to make with the Ball brothers
By Keith Rivas
Don’t blink — the Los Angeles Lakers may have to make an unpopular decision on LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball if they shine in Lithuania.
At some point, we’ve got to start taking LaVar Ball’s master plan involving the Los Angeles Lakers seriously. He’s made it repeatedly clear that he will have all three of his sons playing together in purple and gold and that it will be the best thing for the team and lead to winning and titles and all of that.
Well, he turned out to be right about Lonzo Ball getting selecting despite all of the noise that came with that — do we really know what’s next?
It might seem like something to scoff at when LaVar talksa about how LiAngelo and LaMelo are going to be great like he believes their older brother is. The elder Ball has taken it to the point where he’s removed his younger sons from Chino Hills High School and UCLA to grow their talents even more and groom them for the association.
That led the Ball brothers to a deal in Lithuania that gives them a chance to play professionally overseas — together. This is the biggest part of the point I am trying to make, as the chemistry they could put on display will be a huge decision for the Los Angeles Lakers as soon as this summer.

LA doesn’t hold the rights to first round pick, and opening the idea and conversation of drafting another Ball brother (in this case, LiAngelo) in the second round wouldn’t be as bold of a move as you might think.
It doesn’t come with the prestige that a top-two selection comes with like what happened with Lonzo, but it could still happen. This might actually be a good thing, too.
The Lakers have shown a bit of misdirection with Lonzo missing time, and that’s not necessarily any one particular player’s fault. If this were to continue, is there really any hurt in putting their trust in LiAngelo Ball if you ignore the incident in China and he actually plays well with his other brother in Lithuania.

As much as I don’t like the noise or the drama, I like this move if LiAngelo shows that the chemistry all can work out within the family. It’d be a safer pick in the second round, especially since the team already signed themselves up with LaVar by drafting Lonzo last summer.
