4. Mike Trout will win his third MVP award

This prediction is not necessarily a bold one, as Trout has been in the running for American League MVP every single full season that he has been a professional. Despite this, the former MVP only has two awards under his belt in six seasons played; only.

If it were not for external factors and the team he plays on, Trout easily could be a five-time MVP winner at only 26 years old. In 2012 Miguel Cabrera had a pretty good year and the world was not yet accustomed to Trout. Add in the fact that the Tigers made a World Series push and Cabrera received the edge.

The next season Cabrera won the award again, only there was not much Trout could do. Cabrera won the American League triple crown (leading in batting average, home runs and RBIs), something that had not been done since 1967.

In 2015 Trout was outlasted by Josh Donaldson, although Trout arguably should have won the award. A hot second half from Donaldson and a playoff push from the Blue Jays gave the third baseman the nod over Trout.

Finally, in 2017, Trout missed nearly 50 games due to a thumb injury, his first significant injury as a pro. Still, Trout finished fourth in AL MVP voting and fifth in WAR (despite not even being qualified).

In 2018 Trout will return to business as usual, again becoming the favorite for the American League MVP award. With so many new pieces around him, Trout will only benefit and his numbers will only surge as a result.

Next: The Angels next move is a trade

2018 looks like a great year for Mike Trout and the rest of the Los Angeles Angels. When the dust settles on 2018 the last storyline will be Mike Trout winning his third AL MVP.
